Dear Third Grade Class of 2016-2017,
I am so excited to see you and/or meet you next Tuesday. I have spent a lot of time the past few weeks in our classroom making it bright and fun just for you! I have also been busy planning some fun activities for the first week back. I hope you are as excited as I am to spend a great year learning and having fun. Today was the first official day back for the teachers in River Edge. We were hard at work all day in workshops learning about different things that help to make school a better place for you. I know it's tough, but try to get a good night sleep next Monday night so you are bright eyed and ready to meet your teacher and classmates! Enjoy the last few days of your summer! See you next week! Your teacher, Ms. Moran

This year for Digital Learning Day we were asked to participate in creating an ABC document for something we are learning about in class. Since our class has just started our new science unit on The Sun, Moon and Earth, we decided this would be a good chance to learn a little more about our new topic. Check it out. It's our first day in 3rd grade today. Yup, that's right! It's my first day in 3rd grade as well. I am looking forward to a wonderful year filled with new educational journeys for us all.
What is a small moment? It's a personal narrative that takes place in a short amount of time. Our class has been working very hard on our Small Moments writing pieces! We have planned, wrote, revised, edited and published stories about something that happened in our lives. Check out some pictures from our celebration where we shared our writing pieces with each other.
Firefighter Phil came to Roosevelt to remind us of fire safety for Fire Prevention Week. We really enjoyed his jokes and magic tricks, but most of all we learned and reviewed the ways to stay safe if we ever experience a fire. One of our students even got a chance to go up and answer a question.
The students in first and second grade had a surprise visitor today. The Cat in the Hat came to Roosevelt School to say "hi", dance around and take some pictures. He came to help us kick of Read Across America month, which is next month. We had such an exciting visitor at school today! Dan Gutman, author of the My Weird School series, came to talk to us! He talked to us about a day in the life of an author, told us how he came up with his idea for starting the series, drew us a picture of AJ, and even read a chapter from his newest book that doesn't come out until March!! Check out some pictures from his visit. Thanks to our PTO from bringing us such a great author visit!
Here are just a few examples of the goals that students came up with for the new year. They used the website ABCya to create these word clouds. What are your goals for 2015? The students have been working so hard learning about some of their favorite characters. At home, students were to create a paper bag project about a character in a series or book that they were reading. After reading the book and really getting to know their character the students had draw a picture, describe the characters inside and outside traits and make a connection to their character. Inside the bag, students had 5 objects that described or told about their character. On presentation day, the students dressed up like their character and presented their bags and items to their parents and family members as well as the first graders.
